International elections observers who are in Sri Lanka say that they hope for free and fair elections to take place on August 17.
International observer for ANFREL Ichal Supriadi says that, this time, they have 14 observers from 13 countries across Asia. He said that many of them are from the same region of South Asia and from a few countries from South East Asia including Indonesia and Timor.
He also said that they are all coming together and are recruited from the civil societies which are concerned on election monitoring across Asia.
Speaking further, he noted that from the past presidential election, they were looking at good signs and progress at the election process in Sri Lanka and expect this time also to be a good election. He added that they saw the “full confidence of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka.”
